Canoe NW Highlands - Night 1
We plan to meet in Inverness for around 8.30 for the first pick up before driving past Ullapool (pick up possible) towards Elphin. This is where the open canoe expedition begins. We get packed up with kit and food before setting off down Loch Veyatie heading to our first overnight camp, we discuss safety procedures and basic open canoe skills throughout the day.
After breakfast, we load up our boats and set off down Fionn Loch towards the imposing peak of the mighty Suilven, where we have the opportunity to tackle this remote mountain by a route that very few people pass. We plan to camp close to Fionn Loch tonight.
Today we portage over to the beautiful Loch Sionascaig; before heading for our wilderness campsite on a tiny island with extraordinary panoramic views of the surrounding mountains – arguably the most stunning campsite in Scotland!
Canoeing to a secluded beach in Loch Sionascaig, we begin our ascent of Cul Mor through the lower flanks of the birchwood trees, here we have great possibilities of seeing some wildlife; particularly red deer which can be seen roaming across upper reaches of the mountains.
We canoe northwards across Loch Sionascaig for a short portage into Loch Buine Moire. After a short paddle, we rejoin the vehicle and head to Ullapool for some well earned coffee and cake!

Yes! Around 40% of people book as solo travellers.
If you book solo we will provide a tent to have your own sleeping space. If you book as part of a group/pair then we would provide either 2 or 3 man tents to share.
All of our staff hold the relevant qualifications and substantial experience for any courses that you book with us here at Scottish Rock & Water. We can provide any relevant certifications upon request.
Yes, you can secure your course/trip with a deposit. We only require a 25% deposit to reserve your position, with the full payment due 30 days prior to the start date.
