Sea Kayak Raasay - Night 1, Eilean Tigh
Sea Kayak Raasay - Day 1, Start, Scounser
Upon arrival at Sconser, we will take a few minutes to have a chat about peoples experience, the outline of the trip, expectations and equipment. Once we have everything in order we head off from the ferry terminal with a short crossing to the island of Raasay, passing the lighthouse at Eyre Point before continuing along the rugged and remote coastline. And with the highest point on the island Dun Cann lurking above, it has a very wildness feel to it. On we head to the Northern tip of Raasay where we pitch up for the night.
If conditions allow, an early start for the sunrise can be worth every once of effort for the early rise out of your sleeping bag. We then head up the sunny east coast of Rona, taking in the views across to Applecross and the north-west highlands. The islands has a some very interesting history, with an old church cave which was used before a a church was built on the island in 1912. On the northern tip of the island is the imposing Rona lighthouse, where there are lots of skerries inhabiting common seals and otters. After exploring the area on and off the water we head to the old harbour for our 2nd camp.
The final part of our adventure takes us back across Caol Rona to the main island, we will have the Quiraig on our right just behind for a superb backdrop to marvel at. We then head to check out some sandstone through caves just past Manish Point. Sadly our adventure is all but about over, we make the small crossing back to Scounser to finish a fantastic journey.
It's all over too soon! We get packed up and make our way back home, dropping off at Inverness train station before saying our goodbyes!
