What you will climb

The North Face of Ben Nevis offers some of the most inspiring terrain in any one place in Scotland. We will tackle some classic lines across the North face throughout the course if the conditions allow. This is more of a part teach, part guide course. Some previous rock climbing and winter walking/mountaineering experience is essential for this course.

"2 Day Winter Climbing intro"

My dad and I underwent a two day intro to winter climbing. This course was everything I hoped for and Stephen was a friendly, reassuring and attentive instructor. He listened to what we wanted to do and tailored each day to fit our wants and abilities. I felt safe and trusted at all times and would not hesitate to recommend this course or any other by Scottish Rock and Water. We met on the first morning to discuss weather and avalanche forecasts which we learned more about through planning our day. On the hill we discussed these aspects further as well as covering rope work, anchor building, navigation, use of technical gear and placing protection. Stephen was happy to answer any questions and chat, climbing or non climbing related. Thank you for a great weekend.

"Winter climbing intro review"

Me and a friend went for a couple of days for an intro to winter climbing/ice climbing and had an amazing time. Because it was a private course the instructor could cater the experience to our skill level and meant that we learnt a huge deal on a course tailored for us. Couldn't recommend more for anybody looking to get into winter sports, the instructor was passionate and encouraging and we got so much out of our weekend.

"Winter Climbing Intro Week"

An awesome winter climbing course with Stephen and Josh. Tailored tuition covering a breadth of skills from planning and approach, avalanche awareness, technical climbing and ropework, to safe descent and knowing when to call it a day. They were quick to pick up on learning needs and capabilities and adapted the course to my learning style. Plenty of hands on practice with theory to back it up. A friendly bunch with good chat making every adventure an experience to remember.

"Winter Climbing Intro"

Absolutely great weekend with Josh and Stephen. As a group we were completely new to winter climbing and the weekend was tailored perfectly for us and we're looking forward to future trips - couldn't have asked for a better weekend!! (maybe slightly less wind...)

"Fantastic couple of days winter climbing - highly recommended"

I went on a Winter Climbing Intro course with Scottish Rock and Water and would highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in getting outdoors and learning about winter climbing, or improving their existing skills. Stephen, my guide, was superb - very knowledgeable and happy to pass on his insights and experience, as well as being a great communicator and instructor for all of the skills being taught (and great company as well!). The course was tailored to the skills I needed to learn and improve on, and the routes chosen for the two days were ideal for practicing these (as well as being two awesome days out!). I'll definitely book again!
